Safer Space in Richmond |
||
Good afternoon all,
If you happen to be travelling through Richmond, especially through the station, on a Saturday night between 2000 - 2300, keep your eyes peeled for the Safer Streets stall, run by Richmond Borough Neighbourhood police officers, PCSOs, Richmond Council community safety service and local volunteers. We have now reconnected with South Western Railway Rail Community Officers and Parks Patrol to make this initiative even more impactful for members of the public. The initial idea behind Safe Space was to give women and girls a space to attend should they feel intimidated or unsafe whilst enjoying the night-time economy of Richmond. It has further developed to welcome all members of the public to speak to officers and volunteers about issues, concerns and even report crime. The stall provides some anti-spiking resources and crime prevention materials. Richmond upon Thames is one of London’s safest boroughs and currently experiences the lowest number of crimes per 1,000 people. However, the Safe Space in one of the borough’s busiest areas at night and is designed to help people feel more at ease when enjoying the night-time economy.
Kind regards, Heathfield and Whitton Safer Neighbourhoods Policing team
